In 2020 Jordan Bitove co-led NordStar Capital's $60-million purchase of Torstar, and after the partnership's 2022–23 arbitrated split he emerged as sole owner and publisher of the Toronto Star and the Metroland papers. A century after Macedonian immigrants sold the Star on Toronto street corners and read it in King Street East lunchrooms, a grandson of Gabresh owns the paper — as complete an arc as Canadian immigration writes.
