Majestic Restaurant
Closed 1969 (expropriated for Jackson Square)
Dan Kuzoff, a Macedonian immigrant, opened the Majestic in downtown Hamilton in 1933 and built it into a 150-to-200-seat room where mayors — Lloyd Jackson, Vic Copps — took their lunch. The city expropriated the block in 1969 to build Jackson Square, and the Majestic's thirty-six years ended by bulldozer rather than by choice; Hamilton Public Library keeps its photograph.
It stands here for Hamilton's whole Macedonian restaurant generation, which fed the steel city as thoroughly as Toronto's fed the capital of the trade.
